the cuppboard
I am going to try and tell you what happened to us on January 10, 2012, in the conference room in the Nephrology department at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia….
[Mother]: “So you mean to tell me that as a doctor, you are not recommending the transplant, and when her kidneys fail in six months to a year, you want me to let her die because she is mentally retarded? There is no other medical reason for her not to have this transplant other than she is MENTALLY RETARDED!”
[Doctor]: “Yes.”
I am so angry right now I can’t see straight. This is the logical conclusion of the culture of death, of the pro-“choice” mentality, of euthanasia, of everything that lends itself to abelism, to deciding which person is worth “more” than others. And of course the “choice” is never the “choice” of the family, of the loved ones, of the sick person—but of the people who control the situation, who make damn sure it’s their choice, not yours.
If this disturbs you as much as it should, reblog and help spread the word. This family needs all the help and prayers they can get.
