Anonymous asked: I'm an Old Catholic (I reject the Pope) and I feel like a brother to all the Protestants because they protested to the equal-to-God position of the Pope. Also I feel like a brother to all the denominations that have been created after the Papacy. Are you a Protestant?

No, I no longer consider myself a Protestant. One day I asked myself “What are you protesting against?” and couldn’t find a satisfactory answer.

However, I am still a “non-denominational” Christian, I suppose, since I have not made any steps towards joining the Church.

If you reject the Pope as equal-to-God, you should feel kinship with the Orthodox and Catholics as well, since they do not teach that the Pope is equal to God.

Many of the things Protestants began protesting were moral abuses in the Church  (which I believe they had a right & duty to protest). From what I’ve learned, the movement then quickly began to include doctrinal issues, of which the role of the Pope was one, along with saying ecumenical counsels were fallible, justification through faith alone, sola scriptura, the Priesthood, monks and nuns rejecting their vows, transubstantiation, the Sacraments, etc. etc. etc.

It’s kind of crazy how fast they threw everything out the window, really. Sorry to digress, I’ve just been listening to history podcasts concerning the Reformation lately. I get geeky excited talking about it. :)

(PS - I am curious, since I don’t talk with many “Old Catholics”. When you say you reject the Pope, do you mean Papal Infallibility or even the office of Pope period? Could you clarify that for me?)
